PFS Brief History
Our company was founded in 1929 by Doug Prince in Dallas, Texas. Opened during the "Great Depression", the first Prince's drive-in was a "one man show". Doug would go out to the customer's car, take the order, run inside and cook it, then bring back the customer's order. Doug was the cook, dishwasher, and he also delivered the orders to the customers parked outside. |
| By 1934, Prince's had expanded to Houston, and carhops had been added. Food was served on a tray that was hung on the window of a customer's car. |
By 1941, Doug had been successful in glamorizing the "carhop" with majorette costumes, boots and tall hats. Jeanette Hall, a carhop with Prince's, was named "Miss American Carhop" and was featured in a story in "Life" magazine. |
| Prince's continued to expand through the 40's, 50's and 60's, with operations entering other Texas cities. In 1954, Prince Food Systems was incorporated. Prince Food Systems, Inc. now operated the original drive-ins, as well as self-service and full-service restaurants. Prince began to open full-service, upscale restaurants in keeping with the "boom days" of the 70's. |
In the mid-70's Prince began to focus on corporate food service, in both cafeteria and executive dining. Past experience in fine dining was an asset. Our ability to cook good food from fresh ingredients made employee cafeterias a place people looked forward to going, instead of them being thought of as "school cafeterias". Prince was able to increase employee participation in every food service it operated as much as 300%! |
| Our food quality and taste are unsurpassed in the industry. In 1992, Prince entered healthcare food service, with the idea that our ability to cook great food should also be adaptable to hospitals. We have had great success and have been able to reduce costs and provide better tasting meals. We are striving to change the reputation of Hospital meals one tray at a time! |
